Corpus Christi

Moving to Texas had us rethinking the idea of a family vacation. Disneyland was out of the question because it's way too far to drive and flying is not an option at this time (gotta have money, LOL).
This week we decided to take a short drive to Corpus Christi, TX. We spent about a day and a half there and had a blast! The kids were great on the ride down, after all, we had practiced with the drive to and from Austin in November and then the actual move in January.
After checking in to our hotel we headed over to the beach.
The cool thing was that in order to get to the beach we had to drive the van onto a ferry boat that took us to the island. We headed to Port Aransas. This was Hailey's first time to see the ocean (technically the Gulf of Mexico) and she loved it!

She continued to go deeper and deeper so we had to keep a very close eye on her. The girl is crazy fearless!

Ammon loved it too, though not as much as Hailey, he is more cautious than she is. Thank heaven for that.

Hailey got mad when we took her out of the water. She was so mad she wouldn't look at me when I tried to take a photo.
She loved digging in the sand and splashing around on the shore.
The next day we were there we went to see the USS Lexington that sits in the bay.
It's a decommissioned aircraft carrier and it is HUGE!
And what do boys like? Guns of course! And the bigger the better. Ammon decided to take a shot at the anti-aircraft gun before we went on the ship.
Then our two little cuties posed by the ginormous propeller. Hailey has to stay in the stroller, only because we don't have a leash for her!
The boys took a chance at flying their own aircraft with Ammon at the gun, of course.
Then they got themselves into some trouble and I threw them into the brig. That's where all the naughty boys go.
Ammon enjoyed the Junior Officers bunks. And yes, they were so close together that he had to duck underneath. They were loaded up in stacks of three.
We reluctantly let Hailey out of the stroller but even the chains were no match for her so the freedom was short lived.

Up on top of the aircraft carrier was a sight to behold. Who knew so many planes and people could fit up there?
Ammon had to sit down and rest his tired feet, in a classroom chair that the pilots would get briefed in before heading out to a mission.
We headed out to the beach again after that but I didn't take the camera this time. It's a little stressful trying to keep sand out of everything.
However, on the way back to the hotel for the night I couldn't pass up this perfect sunset. A great end to a great vacation. After all, it was time to go home in the morning.
THE END.
